Our ‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ contest champ says CBS spoiled part of the finale

Did CBS accidentally spoil part of the “Survivor: Worlds Apart” season finale in a teaser trailer? Gold Derby’s latest $100 contest champ, Benutty, says so, which is how he was able to claim victory in his predictions. “Two days ago, I was predicting Carolyn Rivera to be voted out at the Top 5, until CBS released a second teaser for the finale that showed Mike Holloway, Will Sims and Carolyn all competing in a challenge that wasn’t one of the other two they had already shown in teasers with all five. Clearly, this was a challenge from the Final 4 and each of those three had made it there.”

Mike Holloway wins ‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ as Carolyn and Will tie for second place

Benutty wins our prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate and eternal bragging rights for topping our Season 30 leaderboard. He actually ties with another user, Smartdude, for the best overall season accuracy at 69%, though Benutty broke the tie by having a higher point total (147,400) thanks to locking in the best odds at the right time and using his 500 and 200 point bets wisely.

“Going into the finale, it was inconceivable that both Mike and Carolyn would make it out of the Final 5 alive. Logically, whichever didn’t win Immunity should have went home in fifth place, seeing as how Will, Sierra Thomas and Rodney Lavoie could not beat either of them and had been voting as a solid block of three all season.

“For Mike and Carolyn to both make it through the Final 5 vote, with or without Immunity, meant that they must make it through the Final 4 vote as well and sit in the finals together. While I personally think Carolyn should have won — she certainly would have gotten my vote — it was clear that Mike had the advantage and would easily win. Overall, the key to predicting a game like ‘Survivor’ is leaving logic at the door.

“After a few duds, Worlds Apart successfully re-ignited my love of ‘Survivor.’ The best seasons always have a diverse, competitive and aggressive cast and this one was certainly one of the very best. While I’m disappointed Carolyn didn’t make it through the public vote, I think Second Chance will be a legendary season, too, and I can’t wait for it to start!”

Gold Derby predicts 16 of 20 castaways for ‘Survivor: Second Chance’ – Who’d we miss?

Gold Derby accurately predicted that oil driller Mike would be this season’s winner, as our savvy users gave him leading odds of 5/6, or 54% of the combined vote.

Our users correctly called Rodney’s elimination in fourth place (50/1 odds; 2%), but we were way off with Sierra’s ranking. We thought she’d come in third place with 6/1 odds and 14%, but she actually was the show’s fifth-place finisher.

“Survivor: Worlds Apart” may be over, but we are forecasting everything from the results on TV shows like “Survivor: Second Chance” and “Game of Thrones” to the winners of the Emmys, Critics’ Choice TV Awards and Tonys.
