‘The Interview’ and Kirk Cameron make Razzies’ official short list

GOLD DERBY LEAKS THE RAZZIES BALLOT: Razzie Awards voting is now under way, which means the year’s worst films and performances have been whittled down to a short list full of lots of hate for “The Interview” and Kirk Cameron and his “Saving Christmas.”

Both flicks are among the 12 cited for Worst Picture, but voters are permitted to add a write-in choice while selecting five nominees per cateory. The Razzie ballot is very loosey-goosey. For example, in the category for Worst Screen Combo, voter options include “James Franco & EITHER Seth Rogen or Randall Park (Kim Jong Un) / THE INTERVIEW” and “Kirk Cameron and His Ego / Kirk Cameron’s SAVING CHRISTMAS.”

In addition, Cameron appears solo in the category for Worst Actor, while “Saving Christmas” is also cited in the races for Worst Supporting Actress (Brigette Cameron), Worst Director and Screenplay.

Also making the Worst Actor list: Franco and Rogen get separate mentions. So does Adam Sandler, but, strangely, his “Blended” isn’t up for Worst Picture. Perhaps that is the most shocking thing about the short list considering Sandler’s been on a Razzie roll lately, winning five in just the past few years (six total).

Seth MacFarlane‘s critically lambasted “A Million Ways to Die in the West” has the most mentions on the short list (eight), followed by six for “The Expendables 3” and five for “Saving Christmas,” “Sex Tape” and  “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (“Trannies”).

Voting ends on Jan. 10. Nominations will be unveiled on January 14 — one day before Oscar bids are announced.

55 thoughts on “‘The Interview’ and Kirk Cameron make Razzies’ official short list

  1. I still think they (Razzies)should give out their first Lifetime Achievement Award to Adam Sandler.A smorgsboard(spelled wrong) of movie crap.

  2. I liked “Transcendence” and I gave “The Interview” an 8/10 on IMDb for being one of the funniest movies of the year. I’m not sure what people aren’t seeing that makes them think they’re both bad …

  3. My Razzie ballot of who/what I voted for is on the official forum, you have to go back a page but its there.

Sorry if you liked Transcendence, I voted for it to be nominated in 4 categories. I thought it was a mess and a waste of talent. Johnny Depp is currently my #1 choice for it, in fact. I also voted for Noah to be nominated in Worst Screenplay and Worst Remake/Rip-off. I had heard Jennifer Aniston wasn’t that bad in Horrible Bosses 2 and that her performance in it was supporting, NOT leading so I didn’t vote for her. I just hope people are smart and give Trannies #4 EV-ER-Y-THING!!!

  4. In case ANY Razzie voters read this, know that I as a voter, cast my ballot w/ write-in nominees for Worst Supporting Actor Jamie Foxx for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Rio 2 AND Annie in the category of Worst Picture. Please feel free to join me doing so!!! 🙂

  5. I don’t get all the hate for “A Million Ways to Die in the West” I think I laughed more than when I watched “TED”. The jokes were a little more clever to me and it didn’t have that god awful stall in the plot that most comedies get nowadays when they try to cram too much drama in towards the 3rd act to force un-needed character development (Like everything Judd Apatow is involved with)

  6. Maleficent was quite terrible.

I think the razzies are wasted on stupid comedies, because that’s what they’re supposed to be… Stupid and funny!

The Razzies should focus on movies that want to be taken seriously, but are so horrendously made/acted that they can’t be. Only then will you truly be honoring the worst in film!

  7. These awards are a really bad joke. It’s in fact hilarious how they pretend to be about “the worst picture” or “the worst performances” or the worst in film every year in general. There are some really crappy movies / performances, etc. but the politics behind them are almost inconceivable. I mean, seriously, if they would nominate the actual worst movies and performances then all would be fine. But they always choose to nominate big stars or actors in genetal who starred in less successful or even bad films. Because that’s the only way they could draw one’s attention. So shameful and laughable at the same time. Like how in the world could Charlize Theron be nominated as Worst Actress Of The Year for A Million Days To Die In The West? I guess Razzie voters have no idea what a “bad performance” means. And it’s the same even for Amanda Seyfried (not even close to good to good in the film otherwise) and the film itself which by the way I didn’t like at all. But worst of the year? Seriously? Jennifer Aniston gave a “bad” performance in the sequel of Horrible Bosses? Ugh! Naomi Watts nominated as Worst Actress in Diana and Movie 43 just because the films were god-awful or Tom Cruise nominated as Worst Actor for War Of The Worlds just because he kinda flipped out at Opra’s show that year and was at tabloids every day thanks to his affair with Katie Holmes? Sorry but these are not even close to the worst of any respective year. Yeah, Halle Berry was justly nominated as Worst Actress for Catwoman (though I highly doubt she gave the worst female performance of that year and deserved to win) but on the whole The Razzies rarely get it right and since they’re not even remotely close to what they’re supposed to be about to me they have no reason of existence at all.

  8. The razzies forgot to put that last shity spiderman film. The catagories: worst picture; worst screenplay ; worst director; and worst MUSIC.

  9. How did NOAH get more Razzie consideration than EXODUS? The latter is headed for a bigger box office flop and WAY worse reviews. Bale gave the worst performance of the year in that whitewashed POS.

  10. I think Worst Picture needs to end in a tie between TMNT and Transformers 4, two films that Michael Bay was involved in, and then the Razzies give Bay a Worst Career Achievement Award. Those movies were terrible and yet they still made money with his involvement. Hopefully, giving him more Razzies will encourage him to stop making movies, and Americans to stop paying for complete crap.

  11. Men I was really surprised to see the interview here, I mean is not an outstanding or superb movie, but it gives what people are waiting for. Its not like transformers were it craps all over peoples criteria lowing the bar for futures movies that are gonna still be crap. I believe the interview hit the spot as being as controversial as it is. Give some credit…

  12. The interview is actually one if the best movies of the year– the razors are just trying to get media attention by aligning themselves with North Korea.

  13. Do those of you who run this site understand what Razzies actually are?

Is The Interview a great movie? No. Is it a bad movie? Hell No. Who decides this crap. Look at Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. Razzies are those who according to their peer’s are absolute crap. Interview was at least better than half the crap that released this year.

You don’t have Ouija nominated or Dumb and Dumber To or Addicted. Those just include recent movies. Why don’y you do some research first before spouting nonsense.

  14. Transcendence doesn’t deserve any of this, its because of the lousy critics underrated it. I frankly quite enjoyed it.

  15. I have watched Before I go to sleep and it is a shame that Nicole Kidman has been nominated to a Razzie. It really shows how piloted these things are. oscars may all be about politics but this is all a very mean and shameful game aimed at destroying reputation of artists. It is bad enough to throw Susan Sarandon in the mud (even though Tammy is awful) but Before i go to sleep was a decent movie and Nicole Kidman was really good in it. It does not really matter how bad certain movies can be (in the eyes of these people who really enjoyed trashing Cameron Diaz, johnny Depp and Charlize Theron as much as they could). however it is not justifiable. Yes these are very rich actors and in some cases made poor choices but it is not fair to humiliate them like this. Shame shame shame.

  16. These are pretty pathetic and kind of what’s wrong with the internet. It is is tear things down.

That said, Left Behind and Saving Christmas should be odds on favorites.

  17. I actually liked The Interview and Noah. I think they’re mostly just nominating the popular targets. (Props to them for Saving Christmas, though)

  18. Actually this is a load of bullshit lol, you can’t even spell the actors name right… its Melissa McCarthy, not Melinda.

  19. Including The Interview doesn’t sit right with me. That movie was one of the most original and entertaining movies I saw this year.

  20. The only movie on this list I’ve seen is Pompeii. I only watched it to see Emily Browning. I don’t even remember if I liked it or not. Totally forgettable.

  21. First off, whoever is writing this list needs to brush up on their celebrity names. It’s Melissa McCarthy, not Melinda and Lea Michele, not Michelle.
Second, all the awards should go to TMNT. They ruined a great 80’s TV series and 90’s movies. I can’t believe I actually wasted money on that crap…

  22. You people are such pieces of crap. Hopefully you get a shock to the heart soon enough and realize what you’ve done is wrong. Transformers: Age of Extinction is the best in the series, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was awesome. Where in the name of God do you get this crap? Tokiks!

  23. Serious..
TMNT remake had me almost vomit.
As a long time TMNT fan (i have the first “year” in the cartoon series and the old movies too) this “remake” only left the taste of vomit in the corner of my mouth.
But well, thats what happens when you try to “perfect” something for a new audience.
You think you are “good”, but way too often ambition outweight skill.
    And TMNT clearly shows that.

  24. Love how people bash the new TMNT when the reviews for the original movie were about the same. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved it but it’s more than a little hypocritical to say the old one was that much better. I thought the new one was fine. Nostalgia does funny things to our perspective sometimes.

  25. I don’t get their hate for Transcendence at all. Disappointing yes, but one of the worst films of the year? No way. And to say Wally Pfister is one of the worst directors is unbelievable, I think they just really want to read out his name.

  26. I always enjoy these lists but why so much shit for a million ways to die…it was hilarious and how can you nominate Liam neeson

  27. The best part of reading lists like this is the comments from other readers. Honestly, why do you people get so mad about this kind of thing? What is your emotional investment in a movie that you get in such a huff because someone (gasp!) really didn’t like it? Why do you care?

  28. Hubby and I watched The Interview via YouTube (6 bucks) and while it was indeed stupid, it was quite funny. Perhaps if we’d paid $15 a ticket in the theater I would not be so generous in my “review” but we def had quite a few good laughs. It was stupid-funny on par with Balls of Fury (hilarious, if you ask me!) or Dodgeball (also funny.) No, it’s not great cinema, but with all the nasty stuff going on in the world, sometimes stupid, puerile, escapist fare is just what the doctor ordered!

  29. Most of these weren’t that bad of movies or bad at all. I’m sure you could find worse nominees, but I do get the fact that the Razzie’s are a comedy bit in themselves. Some people take this too seriously…the Razzie’s are not the be all and end all of bad movies, so relax people.

  30. I’d seen The Legend of Hercules, thought it was a great movie. I love both action and mythology. TMNT? I understand. I’d never heard of Saving Christmas. We’re they that bad? Tell me. I’d thought that The Dictator was the worst movie ever and I didn’t think about getting a refund. I’d just watch it all.

  31. …why is the Interview on this list? Yeah, it’s a dumb comedy. But…it’s a comedy. It was funny.
If you’re going to put mediocre Seth Rogan movies, then what about ‘Neighbors’? THAT movie was pretty boring.

  32. “Noah” and “The Interview” were really some of the worst movies this year? The creator must not have watched a lot of movies.

  33. ah ok, this list is fake… that explains why many movies that came out this year were way worse than the ones listed… guess you were only going for the popular movies…
