As many of you have been predicting for weeks, 16-year-old Sawyer Fredericks was crowned “The Voice” champion Tuesday night. The young crooner has been the frontrunner since the Top 20 was determined for the live shows in early April. His coach Pharrell Williams, a Grammy Award-winning producer and artist himself, now his his first winning contender in his second year on the show.
In fact, Gold Derby’s combined predictions were right on the money in three out of four cases. Meghan Linsey was in second place at 15/2 for her coach Blake Shelton. We had Joshua Davis for Team Adam Levine in the fourth position at 33/1, but he actually made it to third place. Instead, the other Williams team member, Koryn Hawthorne, was at 20/1 but finished in the last spot.
For Shelton, he has won four of the prior seven seasons of the reality hit show (second, third, fourth, seventh). Levine was triumphant twice before (first, fifth). The other season was won by R&B superstar Usher, who is no longer on the program. This year’s fourth coach, Christina Aguilera, had no contenders in the finale after her last artist, India Carney, was eliminated the previous week. She has never had a winning contestant in her off-and-on time as a coach.
In our “The Voice” predictions center, we’ve been asking users like YOU to predict the ultimate winner all season long. We’ve also asked who would be the triumphant coach this year and which artists would be eliminated throughout the live weeks of the NBC reality show. Hundreds of users cast their votes, but only one claims Gold Derby’s prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate and eternal bragging rights: Denton Davidson.
Davidson has led the contest throughout the season and contributed advice and tips in several Gold Derby articles during that time. He got 17 out of this year’s 21 categories correct and finishes with an 81% accuracy rate. He also earned an impressive 36,328 points over the course of this eighth season by using his 500 and 200 points wisely. Because he is eligible as per our contest rules, he wins a $100 Amazon gift certificate.
Other top predictors in our contest included second place finisher Sunhound at 71% and then a tie between Ngo Khang, Erik10101, and Shack88fan at 67% each.
And for this week’s finale prediction contest, Sunhound and ETPhoneHome tied with 57 other people with 100% perfect scores predicting the exact order of the final four artists and the winning coach. Because they are tied at the top of the leaderboard with the best score of 4,600, they are each recognized for this achievement among that large group. Both of them did this by using their 500 and 200 points on questions when they felt the odds were at the right place to improve their scores.
If eligible as per our contest rules, they will each be awarded a $100 Amazon gift card.
