Now that the Emmys have decided to keep the new category for Best Unstructured Reality Program, which was introduced last year, USA Network is making a strong run for it with its hit show “Chrisley Knows Best.”
USA Network is pressing ahead with a bold FYC ad campaign and promo events that introduce its program’s stars – a quirky, affluent Atlanta family – to the eccentric Hollywood crowd. Just as he does on the TV show before millions of viewers (three million at last count), the clan’s ferociously controlling dad Todd Chrisley recently grandstanded before Emmy voters while entertaining them at a Q&A event held at the London Hotel.
When asked why the program is so successful, he replied “We’re a different kind of crazy.” Todd and wife Julie are shown on TV striving to manage a rambunctious family, which includes a few wild, young ones.
“I think there’s a lot of relatability to everything we have going on in our family,” he said. “Anybody who has teenagers – they know the pain you’re going through. It’s like having a root canal.”
Julie agreed: “We are a real family,” which also includes a new grandchild and the hovering presence of Todd’s mom. Watch a sample episode below: “Getting Testy” from season 3.
“Chrisley Knows Best” competes against last year’s Emmy winner “The Deadliest Catch” and two nominees likely to return: “Wahlburgers” and “Million Dollar Listing: New York.” That means there are three open slots in this category. Rivals include other programs with pampered stars who like to misbehave — “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”
