With Grammy nominations just a month away, the debate over who will – and who should – win top categories is heating up in our forums. Among the latest hot topics is this year’s career breakthrough for The Weeknd, who topped the charts with his ubiquitous single “Cant Feel My Face” and album “Beauty Behind the Madness.” Will he sweep the awards? Read some of our posters comments below, and click here to join the discussion in our forums.
James14: The Weeknd is a tough one for me this year. I could see him sweeping the General Field but could also see him going home empty-handed.
PoweR: The Weeknd doesn’t really have any Grammy history, so I agree it could go either way in the R&B field with him. I don’t think he’s a lock for R&B Performance or R&B Song. I think voters would feel just as passionate about DAngelo or even more. Urban Contemporary Album would be his best bet. Every other album contending there flopped. Miguel legitimately put out the best album in the field and I wouldn’t be upset at a win for him there.
Bionic: I can see The Weeknd winning 1-2 Grammys. He should have no problem winning Best Urban Contemporary Album. His chances are not as strong in Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.
Tony KuKo: OK, I am not a fan of The Weeknd at all and I am tired of listening to “Can’t Feel My Face.” But I must say that the whole theme surrounding the song is what’s interesting. Almost everybody thinks this song is about a woman while it is actually about drug addiction, and I think that’s what would catch the attention of the voters and I don’t think it’d be trashed just because it repeats the first two lines of the first verse in the second verse.
Do you think The Weeknd will sweep the general field?
