The Academy of Country Music Awards announced the winners of their three New Artist contests on March 23, and Chris Stapleton (New Male Artist), Kelsea Ballerini (New Female Artist) and Old Dominion (New Duo/Group) came out on top.
Stapleton also won Best New Artist at the CMA Awards last Novermber, and though he wasn’t eligible for that prize at the Grammys, he still won a pair of prizes from the recording academy: Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance for “Traveller” and its title track, respectively.
Stapleton can win an additional four categories when the rest of the ACM categories are announced on April 3: Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (“Traveller”), Song of the Year (“Nobody to Blame“) and Vocal Event of the Year (“Hangover Tonight“).
Ballerini’s ACM victory is one of her first major music awards. In 2015 she was nominated for New Artist and Female Vocalist at the CMAs, and she also contended for Favorite Country Female at the American Music Awards, but she didn’t win those prizes. She contends for just one more prize on April 3: Female Vocalist of the Year.
Old Dominion also just have one other nomination at the main ACM ceremony: Vocal Group of the Year.
With the announcement of these ACM winners, we’ve closed predictions in these three categories, but you can still enter or edit your picks in the other 10 races.
