ACM Awards: Miranda Lambert will tie record with 7th Female Vocalist win

Miranda Lambert has won the ACM Award for Female Vocalist of the Year for the last six years in a row. She’s about to make it a lucky seven according to our predictions. That would tie the record currently held by Reba McEntire, but Lambert would be the first to win that many consecutively.

Our Top 24 Users, who had the highest scores predicting last year’s ACM winners, strongly favor Lambert to continue her winning streak, but they’re not unanimous. Seventeen of them say she’ll win again, giving her 9/10 odds. That includes user Paul Rankin, who tied for the very best predictions last year (73%), so it may be wise to keep his predictions in mind. It may also be a good sign for Lambert that she’s the only woman nominated for Entertainer of the Year this year.

But another five top users are betting on Carrie Underwood, giving her 7/2 odds. Underwood is actually a two-time Entertainer of the Year champ (2008-2009) in addition to three Female Vocalist victories (2006-2008). But this is her only nomination this year, which may put her at a disadvantage in this contest.

One top user is predicting Kacey Musgraves, giving her 16/1 odds. She has never won this award before, but she did claim Album of the Year for “Same Trailer, Different Park” in 2013. This year she has one other nomination: Video of the Year for “Biscuits.”

Our last top user is predicting a surprise victory for Jana Kramer, giving her 18/1 odds. Like Underwood, Kramer has no other nominations this year, but she is a previous winner: she took New Female Vocalist of the Year in 2012.

None of our top users are predicting the last contender, Kelsea Ballerini. She’s the only nominee in this race who has never won an ACM Award before, but she has two chances this year; she’s also up for New Female Vocalist of the Year.

While our Top 24 Users are split over this result, our Editors, who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby, are unanimous. All five of us say Lambert will win: Chris Beachum, Marcus Dixon, Rob Licuria, Paul Sheehan and myself.
