Can anyone stop Florida Georgia Line from winning Vocal Duo of the Year at the ACM Awards? They have won it the last two years, and now they’ll earn a third trophy according to the combined predictions of our Editors who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby, the Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s ACM winners and the hundreds of total Users who make up our largest and often savviest bloc of predictors.
Nineteen of our Top 24 are predicting a three-peat for Florida Georgia Line, giving them 4/11 odds. That includes Paul Rankin, who tied for the top predictions score (73%) at last year’s ACMs. And all of our editors agree: Chris Beachum, Marcus Dixon, Rob Licuria, Paul Sheehan and I are betting on the chart-topping duo.
Florida Georgia Line have no other nominations at this event, which might normally indicate limited support from the academy, but their rival nominees don’t have widespread support either.
For instance, this is also the only nomination for the duo Joey + Rory, but four of our top users think they’ll pull off an upset, giving them 5/1 odds. This is their fourth bid in this race, following noms from 2008 to 2010, but they have yet to win it. However, they did claim New Vocal Duo of the Year in 2009. Besides Florida Georgia Line, they’re the only past ACM winners in the running.
Our last top user is betting on a surprise victory for the Brothers Osborne, giving them 18/1 odds. This is their second nomination in this category. This year they were also nominated for New Vocal Duo/Group of the Year, but lost that prize to Old Dominion.
None of our editors or top users are predicting the other two nominees in this race. Like Brothers Osborne, Maddie and Tae are nominated for the second time in a row and also contended this year for New Duo/Group.
Rounding out the category are Dan + Shay, who are nominated for the third year in a row. They too have yet to win.
