“Right now, I’m picking Dalton to win based off the long-standing trend that white males are a favorite among ‘Idol’ audiences,” says Benutty. “In theory that could apply to Trent Harmon as well, but I think the younger demographic and his punk vibe are working in favor of a surprise Dalton win.”

“Dalton feels much edgier and exciting than either of the other two who are both traditional, albeit great, vocalists,” Benutty adds. However, he also admits, “Personally, I hope La’Porsha wins!”

Benutty isn’t alone. As of this writing, La’Porsha has leading 9/10 odds (53% chance) to win this farewell season. A triumph for La’Porsha would put her in the company of only five other female champs from years past: Kelly Clarkson (Season 1), Fantasia Barrino (Season 3), Carrie Underwood (Season 4), Jordin Sparks (Season 6) and Candice Glover (Season 12).

Meanwhile, a victory for Dalton would be another check mark in the rocker-guy column that includes past winners David Cook (Season 7), Caleb Johnson (Season 13) and Nick Fradiani (Season 14). Scroll through our photo gallery below to see all past winners.

Dalton and Trent are fighting it out for second place on our prediction charts, with Dalton currently at 10/3 odds (23% chance) and Trent at 4/1 odds (20% chance). Click the above-chart to see more “American Idol” odds and rankings for the series finale.
