Beyonce already has a secure place in the Grammy history books. She has more nominations than any other female artist, and with 20 wins to date she’s the second most awarded woman in Grammy history, behind only Alison Krauss with 27. Queen Bey set another record in 2009 when she won six awards in one night, a record for a female artist. Adele tied that record in 2011, but Beyonce might take it back for herself when this year’s Grammys are handed out on February 12, 2017.
Beyonce is nominated for nine awards. If she wins all nine she will set a new record for the most victories in one night for an artist of any gender, topping the eight awards won by Michael Jackson in 1983 and Santana in 1999. If she can win at least seven she’ll set a new record for the most wins in one year by a woman — not to mention tie Krauss as the Grammys’ most awarded woman ever.
Of the Grammy categories we’re currently predicting — with still more to be added in the coming weeks — Beyonce is ahead for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album (“Lemonade”). Those two wins alone would be enough to put Beyonce among the top 10 most awarded artists of all time, so unless the recording academy shuts her out entirely, which is highly unlikely, she’s bound to make history in one way or another when trophies are handed out.
