Will Emmy Awards voters soon be singing the praises of “Lip Sync Battle”? Spike is entering the second season of the popular musical competition series in the Best Structured Reality race with the Channing Tatum episode as its official submission. Watch the buzzed-about clip above of Tatum doing “Run The World (Girls)” and being surprised by its original performer, Beyonce, at the end.
Tatum’s wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum competes against him in the episode that aired January 7 on Spike. Husband and wife tied for the win, with Channing also lip-syncing “Let It Go” and Jenna performing both “Cold Hearted” and “Pony.” Besides Beyonce, other surprise guests for the episode were Quentin Tarantino, Adam Rodriguez and Paula Abdul.
Host/rapper LL Cool J is listed on a producer on the program and thus could win his very first Emmy Award after years of being snubbed for “NCIS: Los Angeles.” He has one Emmy nom to his name for hosting the 54th Grammy Awards in 2012. He’s also a three-time Grammy nominee for Best Rap Album (“The DEFinition,” 2005), Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“Luv U Better,” 2004) and Best Rap Album (“Mr. Smith,” 1997).
Best Structured Reality has gone to ABC’s “Shark Tank” for the first two years of this category’s existence. Is it time for a shakeup? Sound off in the comments section below or join the discussion right here in our TV forum.
