Four of the five Oscar nominees for Best Costume Design are in contention at the guild awards on Tuesday; “The Revenant” was snubbed by the guild.
We are predicting that Sandy Powell, the Oscar frontrunner for “Cinderella,” will claim Best Fantasy Costume Design over, among others, Oscar rival “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Jenny Beavan‘s post-apocalyptic designs for “Mad Max: Fury Road” won at both the Critics’ Choice and BAFTAs. The other CDG nominees are “Ex Machina,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
And we foresee Powell also prevailing in Best Period Costume Design for her Oscar-nominated work on “Carol” over another Academy Awards contender, “The Danish Girl,” as well as “Brooklyn,” “Crimson Peak” and “Trumbo.”
