We’re predicting 20 categories at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and out of those categories we’re expecting “Mad Max: Fury Road” to come out on top with five wins: Best Director (George Miller), Best Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design and Best Visual Effects.
But “Mad Max” also contends in four categories not in our predictions center: Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie, Best Action Movie, Best Actor in an Action Movie (Tom Hardy) and Best Actress in an Action Movie (Charlize Theron), so its final win count could be almost twice as high as we’re predicting.
But even though “Mad Max” is forecast to win the most awards, “Spotlight” is projected to take Best Picture, as well as Best Original Screenplay and Best Ensemble, bringing its total victories to three.
We also expect “Carol” to prevail three times: Best Supporting Actress (Rooney Mara), Best Costume Design and Best Score.
The only other film predicted to win more than one award is “The Revenant.” It leads the Oscar nominations with 12, but we’re only anticipating two wins at this event: Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Cinematography.
Elsewhere, “Room” is expected to win Best Actress (Brie Larson), “Creed” will take Best Supporting Actor (Sylvester Stallone), “Steve Jobs” will get Best Adapted Screenplay and “Love and Mercy” will be awarded Best Song for “One Kind of Love.”
