‘Dancing with the Stars’: We predicted Rick Perry would be eliminated — were we right?

On Tuesday night, “Dancing with the Stars” bid farewell to its second celebrity contestant. We had given former Texas governor Rick Perry leading 8/13 odds of being eliminated. We thought the same thing last week, but young actor Jake T. Austin got the boot instead. This time, however, the politician’s luck ran out; after three straight weeks at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard he and his pro partner Emma Slater were sent home. Who do you think will go home next?

There were 12 contestants remaining before Perry got the bad news, but six of them already knew they were safe: Laurie Hernandez, James Hinchcliffe, Maureen McCormick, Calvin Johnson, Vanilla Ice and Jana Kramer, who won immunity in one-on-one face-off dances on Monday night. That left Perry in jeopardy along with Amber Rose, Ryan Lochte, Babyface, Terra Jole and Marilu Henner.

On Tuesday night Babyface, Lochte and Henner were the first to get the good news that they would dance on next week. They kept Jole in suspense a little while longer, but she had the highest judges’ score of any dancer in jeopardy, so there was little risk that she would actually be eliminated. That left Perry to sweat it out with Rose until the very end of the two-hour results show.
