“It’s just amazing … You still delivered the ride of a lifetime,” said “Dancing with the Stars” judge Bruno Tonioli after watching race car driver James Hinchcliffe‘s “Suicide Squad”-themed Viennese waltz on “Halloween Night.” Hinchcliffe played the Joker while his pro partner Jenna Johnson portrayed Harley Quinn.
Wait — Jenna Johnson? You might be wondering what happened to Hinchcliffe’s regular partner, Sharna Burgess. We learned during their clip package on Monday that Burgess was injured on “Eras Night,” and her doctors advised her not to perform; if she were to aggravate her injury she would need major reconstructive surgery, so whether she’s out of the competition for one week or for several is up in the air.
But after marveling at Hinchcliffe’s performance with Johnson, Julianne Hough told him, “You are the real deal because you can dance with any partner and knock it out of the park.” Carrie Ann Inaba concurred, adding, “It was beyond incredible.” All three judges give Hinchcliffe perfect 10s for the routine for a total of 30 out of 30.
There were two other perfect dances on “Halloween Night,” but Hinchcliffe was the contestant who won immunity from elimination because he also had the highest cumulative scores for the season to date. That officially put him on top of the judges’ leaderboard for the fourth time this season, more than any other contestant — even Mirror Ball frontrunner Laurie Hernandez.
