“Dancing with the Stars” enters its fourth week of competition on Monday night, October 3, when for the first time ever contestants will perform routines inspired by the acrobatic circus troupe Cirque du Soleil. As you can see from the above list, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez remains the frontrunner to win this season’s “DWTS” with 1/4 odds. That’s dead-even with her odds last week, even though she failed to get the top judges score for the first time on “Face-Off Night.”
However, last week’s top scorer, former NFL player Calvin Johnson, got a big boost as the result of his standout performance, climbing from fourth place to second place with 12/1 odds — his best odds of the season so far.
Race car driver James Hinchcliffe holds stead in third place, though his racetrack odds have slipped a bit (22/1, down from 18/1). In week one he tied Hernandez as the top-scoring celeb, and since then he has consistently landed among the best scoring dancers, so he’s still looking good for a spot in the finals.
Actress Marilu Henner takes a bigger dip. She had been in second place in our predictions so far this season of “DWTS,” but now she’s down to fourth place with 25/1 odds. It probably didn’t help that Hernandez decisively defeated her in their face-off dance last week, which put Henner at risk of elimination on Tuesday night. Henner survived — politician Rick Perry got the boot instead — but last week was the most vulnerable she has been all season.
Rounding out our top five, surprisingly, is rapper Vanilla Ice, who is the greatest gainer in our predictions, moving up from 10th place last week. He tied Rick Perry for the lowest judges’ score on “Face-Off Night,” but judge Len Goodman‘s tie-breaking vote gave Vanilla Ice the win and immunity from elimination. Perhaps getting a taste of triumph was the motivation he needs to step up his game, just as it has stepped up his prediction rankings.
