On Monday night, November 7, the remaining six couples on “Dancing with the Stars” season 23 will perform a pair of routines on “Showstoppers Night.” When the celebs first hit the ballroom floor they will perform dances inspired by classic Broadway shows. Afterwards the stars will pair up for “Team-Up Challenge” routines. The scores from the two dances will be added together to determine the judges’ total scores for the night.
The Broadway showstopper dances are as follows:
Marilu Henner & Derek Hough – Samba – “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” from “Jersey Boys,” featuring a guest performance by Mark Ballas and his “Jersey Boys” co-stars Michael Lomenda, Kristofer McNeeley and Adam Zelasko
Laurie Hernandez & Val Chmerkovskiy – Argentine Tango – “Cell Block Tango” from “Chicago”
James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess – Jazz – “A Brand New Day” from “The Wiz”
Terra Jole & Sasha Farber – Charleston – “If My Friends Could See Me Now” from “Sweet Charity”
Jana Kramer & Gleb Savchenko – Waltz – “She Used to Be Mine” from “Waitress”
As you can see above, Henner and Hough’s samba will feature a guest appearance by Mark Ballas: the longtime “DWTS” pro has won the Mirror Ball Trophy twice and most recently finished in second place in season 22 with UFC fighter Paige VanZant, but after competing for 18 straight seasons Ballas sat out this cycle.
After the six couples are done with their showstoppers the dancers will collaborate for the following team-up routines:
Team-Up #1: James & Sharna/Calvin & Lindsay – Paso Doblé – “No Good” by Kaleo
Team-Up #2: Jana & Gleb/Laurie & Val – Contemporary – “Bird Set Free” by Sia
Team-Up #3: Marilu & Derek/Terra and Sasha – Jazz – “Big Noise from Winnetka” by Bette Midler
In addition to the guest appearance by Ballas on the dance floor, “Showstoppers Night” will feature two musical guests: Grammy-nominated singer Leona Lewis and Tony-winning actress Idina Menzel; Menzel will perform her single “Queen of Swords” and then join Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli as a guest judge.
