When season 23 of “Dancing with the Stars” began in September we thought actress Marilu Henner might be a strong contender to win the Mirror Ball Trophy, but now it looks like she’s about to fall well short. We predict she and her pro partner Derek Hough will be eliminated in sixth place. See the current standings below, which are based on the forecasts of our predictions contest entrants, and check out our complete racetrack odds for Monday night’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars.”
- Marilu Henner — 8/13
- Terra Jole — 7/2
- Calvin Johnson — 16/1
- No One — 25/1
- Jana Kramer — 33/1
- Laurie Hernandez — 50/1
- James Hinchcliffe — 100/1
Henner showed early promise, scoring straight nines in week five on “Most Memorable Year Night,” but since then she has slipped, landing at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard for the last two weeks. She survived elimination last week — swimmer Ryan Lochte was ousted instead — but we don’t think she’ll make it to the final five.
That result would also be disappointing for Hough, who returned to the show for season 23 after sitting out season 22. He holds the record for the most “DWTS” victories with six, but even when he doesn’t win he usually finishes among the best contestants. Out of his 16 past seasons, he has only finished outside of the top four twice. And only once has he ever finished as low as sixth: in season six with celeb partner Shannon Elizabeth.
But there’s a chance reality TV star Terra Jole will go home instead. She scored only one point higher than Henner on “Halloween Night,” so if she doesn’t have strong support from viewers voting at home she could be just as vulnerable as Henner. Our contest entrants give her 7/2 odds.
Ranked third in our predictions is football player Calvin Johnson with 16/1 odds. He received a perfect score last week along with James Hinchcliffe and Laurie Hernandez, but Hinchcliffe rose to the top of the leaderboard due to a tie-breaker (he had the highest cumulative scores for the season up to that point) and then Hernandez beat Johnson in a dance-off, so Johnson’s perfect score was only good for a tie for third place. Johnson has been improving all season, so it would be strange for him to be sent home, but contestants have been eliminated with mid-level scores before, so a shocking elimination is always a possibility.
After Johnson there’s a 25/1 chance of a non-elimination round, but beyond that the contestants appear to be relatively safe, with Jana Kramer (33/1 odds), Hernandez (50/1 odds) and Hinchcliffe (100/1) unlikely to be on the chopping block.
