They are now showcased in a league to forecast who will earn nominations on July 14. Scroll down to see their picks for Best Movie/Mini Actor and then make your own using our easy drag-and-drop menu at the bottom of this post.
1. Bryan Cranston (“All the Way“) – 3/1 odds to earn nomination
Cranston has had a very good decade. After winning six Emmys for “Breaking Bad” (four acting, two producing) and a Tony for “All the Way,” he began this year with an Oscar nomination for “Trumbo.” Now, Cranston is en route to winning Emmy #7 for the HBO adaptation of his Tony-winning play about President Lyndon B. Johnson.
2. Courtney B. Vance (“The People v. O.J. Simpson“) – 9/2 odds to earn nomination
This Tony champ for “Lucky Guy” (2013) is poised to earn his first Emmy nom this year for his brilliant turn as O.J. Simpson’s attorney Johnnie Cochran in the FX miniseries. But can his performance take down Emmy fave Cranston?
3. Idris Elba (“Luther“) – 5/1 odds to earn nomination
Recent double SAG winner Elba (“Beasts of No Nation” and “Luther”) has been nominated thrice for BBC’s “Luther” at the Emmys (2011, 2012, 2014), but has yet to win. Will this year bring his first victory? He was also up for a guest acting bid for “The Big C” in 2011.
4. Oscar Isaac (“Show Me a Hero“) – 7/1 odds to earn nomination
Isaac’s breakout year included “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and HBO’s “Show Me a Hero,” for which he just won the Golden Globe. Our Top 24 Users place his performance as city council member Nick Wasicsko in fourth place to win.
5. Patrick Wilson (“Fargo“) – 12/1 odds to earn nomination
In 2013, the two “Fargo” leading men — Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman — canceled each other out with Emmy voters, allowing Benedict Cumberbatch to break through and take home the Emmy. This year, Wilson stands alone as the sole “Fargo” male lead for Season 2 and could win his first Emmy following his 2004 loss for “Angels in America.”
6. Benedict Cumberbatch (“Sherlock: The Abominable Bride“) – 12/1 odds to earn nomination
As mentioned above, Cumberbatch shocked awards watchers in 2013 when he won for “Sherlock: His Last Vow.” Can he stage another Emmy coup for the new “Sherlock” telefilm? He rounds out our Top 24 Users’ list in sixth place.
