Emmy Awards experts: Sarah Paulson is unbeatable for ‘People v. O.J. Simpson’

Sarah Paulson, it’s time. After four losses at the Emmy Awards for “Game Change” (2012) and “American Horror Story” (2013-15), our 19 experts drawn from major media outlets agree that she will finally prevail for “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” Paulson plays embattled prosecutor Marcia Clark in FX’s limited series and has overwhelming 1/10 odds to win Best Movie/Mini Actress. See racetrack odds in all top Emmy races.

All 19 expert journalists think Paulson will win. They are: Robert Bianco (USA Today), Debra Birnbaum (Variety), Eric Deggans (NPR), Joyce Eng (TV Guide), Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Matthew Jacobs (HuffPo), Don Kaplan (NY Daily News), Richard Lawson (Vanity Fair), Kerr Lordygan (Rotten Tomatoes), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Lynette Rice (Ent. Weekly), Robert Rorke (New York Post), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Anne Thompson (Indiewire), Ken Tucker (Yahoo), Adnan Virk (ESPN), Glenn Whipp (LA Times) and Jarett Wieselman (Buzzfeed).

The battle for second place is fierce, with several leading ladies hoping to take down Paulson. Kirsten Dunst (“Fargo”) has the next-most support as 11 experts have this recent Critics’ Choice Award champ in their #2 positions; this translates to 1/1 odds.

And then there’s Kerry Washington (“Confirmation”), a two-time Emmy nominee for “Scandal” who stars in HBO’s biopic about Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce). Washington has 7/3 odds for a performance that’s more timely than ever thanks to the real-world politics of the current Supreme Court vacancy.

Last year’s nominee Felicity Huffman should find herself recognized again thanks to the buzz and critical raves for Season 2 of ABC’s “American Crime.” Huffman is already an Emmy winner for the first season of “Desperate Housewives” in 2005. New cast member Lili Taylor could also contend for her heralded performance.

Broadway legend Audra McDonald (“Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill”) has 4/1 odds to earn a nomination for the HBO telefilm adaptation of her Tony-winning play. She won her first Emmy last year for Best Special Class Program for “Live From Lincoln Center.”

Rounding out our experts’ rankings for Best Movie/Mini Actress are reigning Golden Globe champ Lady Gaga (“American Horror Story: Hotel”), two-time Emmy winner Blythe Danner (“Madoff”), and the headliners from two recent musical productions: Julianne Hough (“Grease: Live”) and Shanice Williams (“The Wiz: Live”).
