Last year our user Sam Coffey did so well predicting the Emmy nominations — 15th place out of nearly 2,500 predictors — that he’s now featured in a league along with the rest of the Top 24 Users to forecast this year’s noms. Scroll down to see Coffey’s current Emmy picks and then make your own using our easy drag-and-drop menu at the bottom of this post.
“With stalwarts like Amy Poehler, Edie Falco and Lisa Kudrow gone, I’m feeling we’re in store for an overhaul in Best Comedy Actress,” Coffey tells Gold Derby. “I’m keeping reigning champ Julia Louis-Dreyfus and it-girl Amy Schumer in my predictions, but I’m thinking Ellie Kemper overcomes last year’s snub for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.’ Golden Globe winner Rachel Bloom, ‘Black-ish’s’ Tracee Ellis Ross and ‘Fresh Off the Boat’s’ Constance Wu.” See all of Coffey’s Emmy predictions right here.
Kemper plays the title character on the Netflix/Universal comedy, a young woman rescued from a doomsday cult who starts a new life in New York City, sharing an apartment with a struggling actor (Tituss Burgess) and working as a nanny for a self-centered socialite (Jane Krakowski). Even though she was snubbed at the Emmys last year, she made up for it by earning a SAG Award nomination.
Rounding out the comedy races, Coffey predicts HBO’s “Veep” for Best Comedy Series, Jeffrey Tambor for Best Actor, Tony Hale (“Veep”) for Best Supporting Actor and Allison Janney (“Mom”) for Best Supporting Actress.
As for his drama picks, Coffey forecasts HBO’s “Game of Thrones” for Best Drama Series, Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”) for Best Actor, Viola Davis (“How to Get Away with Murder”) for Best Actress, Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) for Best Supporting Actor and Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”) for Best Supporting Actress.
And over on the movie/mini side, he’s going with FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson” for Best Limited Series, HBO’s “All the Way” for Best TV Movie, Bryan Cranston (“All the Way”) for Best Actor, Sarah Paulson (“The People v. O.J. Simpson”) for Best Actress, Jean Smart (“Fargo”) for Best Supporting Actress and Jesse Plemons (“Fargo”) for Best Supporting Actor.
