That “Harry Potter” series officially ended in 2011 with the eighth film in the franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” but Warner Bros. is nevertheless returning to the wizarding world on November 18 with the prequel “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” A final trailer for the film was released on September 28 — watch it above.
“Fantastic Beasts” takes us back to 70 years before Harry’s adventures, and it also takes us across the pond to New York, where writer Newt Scamander (Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne) encounters a secret community of witches and wizards. Scamander would end up writing the textbook that Harry and his peers study at Hogwarts; “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling published “Fantastic Beasts” under Scamander’s name in 2001.
In addition to Redmayne, the cast features actors from both sides of the Atlantic, including Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller, Katherine Waterston, Samantha Morton and Carmen Ejogo. It’s directed by David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” films. And the screenplay is by Rowling herself.
The “Harry Potter” films never contended in top Oscar categories like writing, directing, acting or Best Picture, but they were often recognized for their crafts, and judging from the trailer above “Fantastic Beasts” could be a contender for its production design, visual effects, costumes and cinematography.
