“Gilmore Girls” returns to Netflix on November 25 with a brand new four-episode revival titled “A Year in the Life.” It has been almost a decade since “Gilmore Girls” ended its original seven-season run in 2007, and yet it boasts some of the most memorable quotes in recent TV history. That’s because creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her writing team filled it with fast talk, quick wit and abundant pop culture references. Would you recognize some of the show’s snappiest quips? Take our quiz at the bottom of this post.
The series, which aired on the WB for six season and then on the CW for one more, was never a major Emmy contender. Given its smart dialogue it’s perhaps most shocking that it never contended for any major writing awards — from the television academy or even the Writers Guild. That could change thanks to the Netflix revival; in recent years awards voters have shown much greater fondness for Netflix programs than they ever had for the WB or CW. It could get its next shot at awards recognition quite soon: at the Golden Globes, where “Gilmore” star Lauren Graham was nominated once before (Best TV Musical/Comedy Actress, 2001).
In our recent Gold Derby poll, we asked readers what they love most about “Gilmore Girls,” and so far the witty banter and pop culture references have come out on top. So you had all better be able to identify 100% of these notable quotes. Oy with the poodles already!
