The cast and creators of “Grace and Frankie” celebrated their second season premiere Sunday evening on Sunset Blvd. with Emmy voters and other invited guests. Gold Derby was on the red carpet and interviewed five of the people attending, including showrunner Marta Kauffman, lead actress Lily Tomlin, and supporting actor Sam Waterston.
The new season of the comedy series debuts in full this Friday, May 6, on Netflix. The show is about two ladies (Tomlin, Jane Fonda) who are forced to bond after years of animosity when their husbands (Waterston, Martin Sheen) leave them for each other. The first episode of the new cycle picks up seconds after the surprise twist that concluded the debut season.
At the 2015 Emmy Awards, six-time champ Tomlin was nominated as Best Comedy Actress but lost out to Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”). This season is debuting just in time to qualify for the 2016 ceremony since the ballot deadline is May 31.
Others attending Sunday’s event included Peter Cambor, Brooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, Fonda, Ernie Hudson, June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer, and Baron Vaughn. Following an episode screening, a party was held in West Hollywood.
