Marvel has released a new sneak peak teaser trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (watch above). The sci-fi comedy sequel opens May 5, 2017, three years after the breakout success of the first film, which made $333 million at the domestic box office and $773 million worldwide. That made it one of the biggest moneymakers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Are you excited for the new film?
“Guardians” follows half-human outlaw Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who teams up with a ragtag group of intergalactic outlaws to save the universe. Among his team are assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), warrior Drax (Dave Bautista), bounty-hunting racoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his tree-like partner Groot (Vin Diesel). When last we left our antiheroes, they defeated the megalomaniacal Ronan (Lee Pace) on the planet Xandar.
So what does the future hold for the team? “Vol. 2” will explore the mystery of Quill’s parentage, and if the trailer is any indication it will also explore the mystery of his love life. Drax consoles our hero at one point, saying, “You just need to find a woman who is pathetic — like you.”
The first “Guardians” film wasn’t just a box office hit. It was also well liked by critics. It scored 76 on MetaCritic and 91% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes. Then it won Best Action Movie at the Critics’ Choice Awards and earned Oscar nominations for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Visual Effects. Its script was nominated by the Writers Guild, and its soundtrack even picked up a Grammy nom for Best Compilation.
