In honor of Halloween, let’s take a look at the spooky TV stars who’ve been anointed as the best by the Emmy Awards. From “Game of Thrones” to “American Horror Story,” all 13 performances featured in our photo gallery above won Emmys over the years, proving that even those buttoned-up TV academy members like a good scare every now and again.
Indeed, a pair of performers make our gallery twice: Michael Emerson who won Emmys for his eye-popping roles on “The Practice” (2001) and “Lost” (2009), and scream queen Jessica Lange who prevailed for both “American Horror Story: Murder House” and “American Horror Story: Coven.”
Some other blood-tingling roles to earn the TV academy’s blessing of approval include Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files”), Terry O’Quinn (“Lost”) and Kathy Bates (“American Horror Story: Coven”). And while “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage doesn’t necessarily play a scary character, he is surrounded by frightening white walkers, creepy woods-people and scaly dragons … oh my!
