Yesterday, Disney announced the return of “Indiana Jones” with star Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg for a fifth film to be released in 2019. After three wildly successful films in the 1980s (“Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”), the franchise returned in 2008 with “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” but received mixed reactions from critics and audiences.
So we asked our forum posters what they want to see in the new film. Read some of their comments below, then click here to join the discussion.
KyleBailey: I think if they stay grounded with history with maybe one slight mythical element that isn’t as over the top as aliens, it’ll do better. Oh and a better cinematographer. That last movie was not shot very well although I like it way more than most do.
Ain’t No Elitist: When I was younger, I had plans to make a stop-motion fan film that would concern Indiana Jones travelling to Greece on a quest for the mythical golden fleece whilst staying one step ahead of a group of Spanish facists. It would have also involved the appearances of creatures from Greek mythology and also a skeleton fight as a tribute to Ray Haryhausen. Obviously I never went through with this. Would I submit as a fifth film idea? Umm, no.
Juvia: At this point, this movie should be Indiana Jones’s journey to the retirement home.
Shawn Joseph: I’m curious to see if Shia LaBeouf will be involved and if they will try and hand off the franchise to him, which is kinda what I think they were trying to do with the last film. Not sure why so many people hate it though. Is it as good as the previous installments? Not really. But it was still an awesome flick.
babypook: The best reviews and well wishes for the perennial Harrison/Indiana/Solo Ford: that’s what I’m hoping for. It certainly has the pedigree and players.
ETPhoneHome: For the new one, I would love for them to take a “Temple of Doom” format. Start with him out in the jungle/desert/island somewhere, searching for an artifact (as usual) with a sidekick (doesn’t have to be Shia) and just having a complete adventure in that location where he succeeds at the end and leaves. I don’t necessarily need the world hopping plane on the map hitting every continent and meeting all sorts of bad guys adventure. We got that last time. Let’s keep it simple and just make it great.
