James Corden‘s “Carpool Karaoke” on “The Late Late Show” has become a viral success. So, it’s no surprise that the CBS talk show host, tapped to host the Tony Awards this Sunday (June 12), shot a special Broadway edition of the series featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”), Audra McDonald (“Shuffle Along”), Jane Krakowski (“She Loves Me”) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (“Fully Committed”). They harmonize to “Hamilton,” “Rent” and “Les Miserables” (watch above).
There’s a strong chance Miranda could sweep the Tonys. “Hamilton” has a record-breaking 16 nominations, including a trio of bids for Miranda: Best Actor in a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. Miranda already has a Tony for his score for “In the Heights” (2008).
Krakowski is a nominee this year for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, and “She Loves Me” has eight nominations total, including Best Musical Revival. The “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmdit” star won a Tony for her featured role in the Fellini-inspired musical “Nine” (2003).
While McDonald isn’t nominated this year for “Shuffle Along,” she’s the most awarded performer in Tony Awards history, with six wins. Her most recent was for playing Billie Holiday in “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill” (2014), which she filmed for HBO this year. “Shuffle Along” has 10 Tony nominations this year, including Best Musical.
Ferguson has yet to earn a Tony nomination, but he’s a five-time Emmy nominee for “Modern Family.” He has appeared on Broadway in “On the Town,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and currently headlines the one-man show “Fully Committed.”
