[PHOTOS] Will Lena Headey (‘Game of Thrones’) join list of viscous villains to win at Emmy Awards?

After her knock-out performance in the Season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones,” Emmy Awards watchers are wondering if Lena Headey can finally take home a golden statuette for her diabolical role as Cersei Lannister. And for all the naysayers out there who think Cersei is simply too evil to be embraced by the TV academy, there are 19 other such characters who went on to claim Emmy glory for the actors and actresses who portrayed them, including James Gandolfini (“The Sopranos”) and Jessica Lange (“American Horror Story”). After back-to-back nominations, Gold Derby’s Emmy experts drawn from major media outlets say Headey is a shoo-in for a third nom as Best Drama Supporting Actress. In her first two times at bast, she lost to Anna Gunn (“Breaking Bad”) in 2014 and Uzo Aduba (“Orange Is the New Black”) in 2015. But thanks to the Emmys’ newfound respect for “Game of Thrones” — it finally won Best Drama Series last year and even set a new record with 12 trophies — she is undoubtedly a frontrunner to take home her first trophy.

The show’s heralded season finale, “The Winds of Winter,” was written by showrunners David Benioff & D. B. Weiss and directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who also helmed last week’s series-best “Battle of the Bastards” episode. Will Season 6 of this HBO fantasy epic keep up the same awards momentum as last year?
