Margo Martindale (‘The Americans’) makes Emmy Awards history winning back-to-back Best Drama Guest Actress trophies

Margo Martindale (“The Americans”) just made Emmy Awards history by being the first Best Drama Guest Actress champ to win back-to-back trophies. Besides her wins this year and last year, Martindale also won in 2011 for “Justified” for Best Drama Supporting Actress. Previous two-time winners in this category were Patricia Clarkson, Shirley Knight, Amanda Plummer and Alfre Woodard, but none of them won consecutively.

Martindale took down 2014 winner Allison Janney (“Masters of Sex”) and 2013 champ Carrie Preston (“The Good Wife”), as well as Ellen Burstyn (“House of Cards”), Laurie Metcalf (“Horace and Pete”) and Molly Parker (“House of Cards”).

It took the Emmys four seasons to finally nominate “The Americans” for Best Drama Series, but the one actor from the series who has always been on the TV academy’s radar is Martindale. This year Martindale received her fourth consecutive bid for her role as Claudia, the former KGB handler for undercover spies Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (lead-acting nominees Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell) in FX’s period drama.
