A special screening and Q&A of Netflix’s “Master of None” was conducted for prospective Emmy voters at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles on May 18. Gold Derby was on the red carpet and snagged interviews with stars Aziz Ansari, Lena Waithe, and Kelvin Yu, as well as executive producer Alan Yang, who co-created the show with Ansari. Also present at the event was executive producer Michael Schur, who met Yang and Ansari while the three were working on “Parks and Recreation.”
Ansari stars as a struggling actor in New York who faces many obstacles in both his personal and professional life. Waithe and Yu co-star as two of his closest friends. The program debuted its first season on Netflix last November and won the Critic’s Choice Award as Best Comedy Series this January. Ansari also received a Golden Globe nomination. Yu was previously nominated at the Emmys for Best Animated Series for “Bob’s Burgers.” ANd Yang competed at the Emmys for the first time last year in the Best Comedy Series race for “Parks and Recreation.”
