“The future has never been less certain,” but “together we can change the world” according to the eerie first teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of “Mr. Robot.” Will Rami Malek‘s unhinged hacker follow through on the revolution he started in season one?
The first season of the USA Network drama also started a television revolution, winning Best Drama Series at both the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards last year. Leading man Malek also won Best Drama Actor at Critics’ Choice, while co-star Christian Slater picked up Supporting Actor honors at both Critics’ Choice and the Globes. In addition, it prevailed as Best New Series at the Writers’ Guild Awards.
Arguably even more impressive, Malek was nominated for Best TV Drama Actor at the SAG Awards, which was a rare feat: SAG is usually more resistant to first-year shows, and SAG’s TV acting cateories are all the more competitive since combine lead and supporting contenders.
Given its awards haul so far, it’s no surprise that “Mr. Robot” has the strongest odds of any freshman series in our Emmy predictions. It ranks third for Best Drama Series, behind only defending champ “Game of Thrones” and perennial nominee “House of Cards.” Malek and Slater are also strong contenders for Best Drama Actor and Best Drama Supporting Actor.
The second season of “Mr. Robot” airs this summer, which could give the show an extra advantage at the Emmys: new episodes will be airing while voters while mark their ballots.
