Sylvester Stallone (“Creed“) is the frontrunner with odds of 1/4 to win Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars on Sunday for playing legendary boxer Rocky Balbow in the seventh “Rocky” film. This would be the first Oscar victory for Stallone after previously losing Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay for the original film in 1976.
Our official odds are derived from the predictions of 27 Expert film journalists along with our seven in-house Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the top scores predicting last year’s Oscars, the All-Star Users who did the best for the past two years combined and the thousands of entrants in our prediction contest who make up the largest (and often savviest) bloc of predictors.
Twenty-three of our 27 experts think Stallone will prevail: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), Edward Douglas (Weekend Warrior), Joyce Eng (TV Guide), Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Michael Hogan (Vanity Fair), Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post), Dave Karger (Fandango), Scott Mantz (Access Hollywood), Michael Musto (Out.com), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Christopher Rosen (Entertainment Weekly), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Nicole Sperling (EW), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily), Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Brian Truitt (USA Today), Adnan Virk (ESPN), Jeff Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere), Glenn Whipp (Los Angeles Times) and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.com).
Meanwhile, Jack Mathews (Gold Derby) goes out on a limb for Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies”).
Among the seven editors, all seven are forecasting Stallone: Chris Beachum, Marcus James Dixon, Rob Licuria, Daniel Montgomery, Matt Noble, Tom O’Neil and Paul Sheehan.
Also predicting Stallone to win are 20 of our Top 24 Users and 23 of our All-Star Users. Backing Rylance are three of our Top 24 and one All-Star. And one of our Top 24 predicts Ruffalo.
