Oscar screeners: A24 sends ’20th Century Women’ starring Annette Bening

A24 just sent Oscar voters screeners of Mike Mill‘s well-received “20th Century Women,” in which Annette Bening plays a single mother in 1979 who enlists the help of two other women (bohemian Greta Gerwig and lost soul Elle Fanning) to help her teenage son (Lucas Jade Zumann) grow up to be a good man.

Bening is a major contender for a Best Actress Oscar nomination according to the predictions of our Experts, who place her fourth with 9/1 odds as of this writing. It would be her fifth nomination, having previously contended for Best Supporting Actress for “The Grifters” (1990) and Best Actress for “American Beauty” (1999), “Being Julia” (2004) and “The Kids Are All Right” (2010). But she has yet to prevail.

Mills, who also scripted the film which was inspired by his mother, directed another veteran to an overdue Oscar. Christopher Plummer took home Best Supporting Actor for “Beginners” (2011), a film about Mills’ relationship with his father who came out late in life.

To date, 41 films have been delivered this season. Below, a list of these titles with the most recent first.
