Jackman, who sang, danced, and hosted the 2009 show, gathered an overwhelming 63.12% of the votes. Much further behind were two-time emcee Ellen DeGeneres with 15.28% and then four-time host Whoopi Goldberg at 5.48%.
Academy officials and producers could go with a returning host, but they might also select a first-timer. We also conducted a poll last month with that question, and the top choices were Robert Downey, Jr. and Ricky Gervais (click here for the results of that survey).
As for this poll, here were the people beaten by Jackman along with their Oscar hosting histories:
Billy Crystal has the most experience with nine hosting assignments in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2012.
Ellen DeGeneres was the emcee in 2007 and 2014.
James Franco and Anne Hathaway co-hosted together in 2011.
Whoopi Goldberg has hosted four times in 1994, 1996, 1999, and 2002.
Neil Patrick Harris was the host in 2015.
David Letterman hosted just once in 1995.
Seth MacFarlane was the choice in 2013.
Steve Martin has taken the job three times in 2001, 2003, and 2010 (co-hosting the last time with Alec Baldwin).
Chris Rock was the emcee in 2005 and 2016.
Jon Stewart took the stage in 2006 and 2008.
