Proving that we Oscar forecasters can't always tell which way the wind is blowing, the Academy Awards gave the cold shoulder to a number of strong contenders according to our racetrack odds that combined the predictions of our 25 expert journalists, in-house staff editors and more than 3,700 contest entrants like you.
Below, we list the Top 20 snubs across the major Oscar races, including one frontrunner we all thought would win — Ridley Scott ("The Martian") for Best Director. Among other notable omissions, Idris Elba ("Beasts of No Nation") was left off the list of Best Supporting Actor nominees and "Carol" was snubbed for Best Picture despite earning six bids.
