In just a few years British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has become one of the biggest stars in the world. And his star keeps rising: on November 4 he officially joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the title character in the movie “Doctor Strange.” How will it measure up against his previous work? Vote in our poll below to let us know which previous performance was his best.
Cumberbatch had made appearances in British films like “Atonement” (2007) and “The Other Boleyn Girl” (2008), but then he had a huge career breakthrough thanks to “Sherlock,” the modern update of the classic Sherlock Holmes detective stories which has run off-and-on since 2010. For that role he earned three Emmy nominations for Best Movie/Mini Actor, winning in 2014. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe and SAG Award for that performance.
In addition he earned another Emmy nomination for his lead role in the miniseries “Parade’s End” (2013) and then an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for playing persecuted computer genius Alan Turing in “The Imitation Game” (2014). And he entered the world of big-budget blockbusters, playing Khan in “Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013) and voicing the dragon Smaug in the “Hobbit” films (2012-2014). So in anticipation of his next big leap, “Doctor Strange,” which Cumberbatch do you think was the best Cumberbatch?
