Writer and producer Dan Fogelman has created two new dramas for the fall TV season: “This Is Us” on NBC and “Pitch” on FOX. Both shows are admired by critics, and both pilot episodes ended with a major story twist. But which one was better? (SPOILERS BELOW!)
“This Is Us” tells parallel stories about the lives of people born on the same day, but the pilot ended with the revelation that not all of the storylines are parallel after all. Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley and Chrissy Metz play adult siblings in the present day, while Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore are actually playing their parents in flashbacks.
“Pitch” premiered Thursday night, September 22, and it ended with another parental twist. The series stars Kylie Bunbury as Ginny Baker, who breaks the glass ceiling by becoming the first woman to play for a major league baseball team. Her stern, demanding father (Michael Beach) guided her career since she was a child, but then we learned that he died in a car accident and Ginny has been seeing his ghost ever since.
