In what fittingly became a surprise for many of our predictors, Jenni Riccetti was cut from the competition despite being fourth place in our predictions with 11/1 odds of being eliminated. Instead our marks were on Dexter and Mah-Jing who had in recent weeks failed to leave a positive impression with the judges. Mah-Jing, the competition’s poorest scoring designer so far having not notched a high score all season, wound up as one of the top designs of the week for the first time. His Japanese street style and hip hop-inspired jacket for his mother finally impressed the judges after weeks of indifference. Dexter’s design was considered safe. Ultimately, neither faced elimination.

Instead, it was Jenni, Erin Robertson and Nathalia JMag that were in danger. In a shocking turn of events, Erin scored in the bottom three for the fourth straight week after beginning the season as one of the competition’s best performing. Nathalia came in second from the bottom for the second time this season, making her the only designer left to have been in the bottom two twice. But in the end it was Jenni’s unprofessional, but admittedly quirky design for her mother, a pre-school director, that sent her home.

Rik Villa and Roberi Parra continued to make their case as two of the strongest designers in the competition, becoming the week’s top two ahead of Mah-Jing. Both designed dresses — Rik for his mother and Roberi for his friend — that the judges found to be of perfect proportion and versatile for many events in the women’s lives. Rik was announced as the winner, making him the third designer to get a second win this season along with Erin and Laurence Basse.
