On Thursday night’s “Project Runway” season 15 finale the top four designers showed their 10-piece collections to the series judges and guest judge Zendaya as well as a packed house of fans, colleagues and insiders at New York Fashion Week. Going into the finale Gold Derby readers pegged our season-long frontrunners Laurence Basse and Erin Robertson to battle it out for the win. Read our recap of the episode below to see where the designers placed and if your predictions were correct.
Following their preview critique from the judges, the designers were each tasked with building cohesion within their collections. To aid them in achieving this, Tim Gunn gave them $500 and a trip to Mood Fabrics to find the materials to make the necessary changes. Based on “Finale, Part 1,” our readers believed Roberi Parra had the most work to do and would probably place fourth, with Rik Villa taking third, Erin taking second and Laurence winning.
Rik showed his collection first, mixing his embroidered denim separates with his colorful leather pieces to show a California girl with street style. Laurence made the least changes to her collection, choosing only to elevate one look with leather details and keeping the simple and chic vision of her show. Roberi added new pieces to his collection and beefed up his styling of the models with heels and sophisticated accessories rather than the sneakers he put them in during the preview. Erin decided to turn a dress the judges thought was too simple into a skirt and a new top she created from her new materials, but maintained the “project fun-way” idea she had for her final show.
Roberi’s ability to elevate his collection and create an ethereal and cohesive vision outperformed our expectations, vaulting him from fourth place to the runner-up position. That left room for Rik to finish in fourth place and for only one of the leading women to take first. In the end, it was Erin who came out on top, besting both Laurence, who took third place, and Roberi with her playful, imaginative and colorful show that included a number of “wow” pieces. So, after all Erin was able to rebound from a mid-season slump and regain the popularity she had with the judges early on to be “in” just when she needed it most.
Congratulations to our reader VinAcius who scored perfect 100% predicting “Finale, Part 2.” VinAcius did the best at predicting the answers to this week’s contest questions: that Erin would win, that Roberi would be the runner-up, that Laurence would place third, that Rik would place fourth and that Cornelius would place fifth.
