For the first time this season on “Project Runway,” Cornelius Ortiz should prepare to clean up his work space. After barely escaping elimination last week, Cornelius leads our predictions to be eliminated next with 13/5 odds. Right behind him is Mah-Jing Wong (9/2 odds) who, unlike Cornelius, has been in danger numerous times already. Do you agree or disagree with our readers’ findings? Hurry — make your “Project Runway” Season 15 predictions for a chance to top our famous leaderboards. It’s fun and easy, so start now by predicting who will be out next.
After beginning the competition as one of the strongest competitors, avoiding a low score through the first four challenges, Cornelius’ stock has steadily declined. In week 5 he notched his first low score and then last week was in the bottom two. With only one high score to speak of and no challenge wins, the case for Cornelius to remain in the competition is wearing thin. The most interesting contribution Cornelius has made to the competition so far in fact isn’t about his work — instead it’s his competitiveness and antagonizing one-on-ones, most often directed toward judges’ favorite Erin Robertson, that makes him fun to watch. It’s almost worth it to have him continue in the competition just to get to the finale and add to the tension in the work room during fashion week.
Comparatively, Mah-Jing has been mild-mannered all season while routinely showing up in a danger spot on our elimination chart. He is the only designer left in the competition without a high score, but typically arrives in the middle of the pack on each challenge. In seven weeks he has five “safe” positions and two low scores. One of those low scores was on a team challenge where he was at least considered one of the strongest designers on the losing team. As a consistently safe designer, Mah-Jing has failed to leave his mark on the competition making him one of the most unlikely winners. In that regard, it’s only a matter of time before there aren’t enough designers to have a middle-of-the-pack attitude and he’ll need to rise in the ranks or be forced into the bottom.
