Why can’t some of TV’s leading men — those of chiseled jaw and sexy wink — win Emmy Awards? The list of shunned heartthrobs is long and shocking: Sam Heughan (“Outlander”), Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”), Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”), Hugh Laurie (“House”), George Clooney (“ER”), etc. Heck, Desi Arnaz and Michael Landon were never even nominated, just like Heughan (so far). Click through our photo gallery above highlighting all the TV studs who never won Emmys.
Sure, some handsome chaps have prevailed in years gone by, but there’s an obvious resistance from the old fogies in the TV academy to hug cute guys. Poor Jon Hamm had to wait until the final season of “Mad Men” before he finally won for playing Don Draper, but that explanation is simple: Emmy voters didn’t want to look stupid by failing to reward Hamm for the role that made him a household name.
Gold Derby founder Tom O’Neil believes the reason goes like this: Those jealous geezers in the TV academy seem to be saying to the studs, “OK, dude, you’ve got the looks, the money, the fame, the babes — here’s one thing you can’t have…. Now SUFFER!” Do you agree? Sound off in the comments section below.
