Movie superstar Benedict Cumberbatch hosted NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend for the first time. Give your grade of A-F in our poll below to the first-time guest host on how well he did headlining the program.
Cumberbatch is a 2014 Emmy Award winner for his role as Sherlock Holmes on the PBS telefilms “Sherlock.” He hosted this weekend in support of his blockbuster Marvel film “Doctor Strange.” His career has also included Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for “The Imitation Game” (2014), “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (2011), “Star Trek: Into Darkness” (2013), “12 Years a Slave” (2013), “August: Osage County” (2013), and “Black Mass” (2015).
This “SNL” episode opened with a presidential sketch featuring Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton and Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump. Cumberbatch then had a singing monologue about himself, the game show “Why Is Benedict Cumberbatch Hot?,” a short film about Koohl Toilet, a surprise bachelorette sketch, “Office Hours,” “Gemma and Ricky” restaurant sketch, Cumberbatch as a criminal mastermind, and a meeting with Mr. Shaw. Special guests included Bill Murray, Dana Carvey (as the Church Lady), and members of the Chicago Cubs (World Series winners).
