[WATCH] ‘Shut Eye’ behind the scenes featurette showcases Jeffrey Donovan, KaDee Strickland & Isabella Rossellini

“I was intrigued by the idea of what would happen if a fake psychic started to have real visions,” teases Les Bohem in Hulu’s behind the scenes featurette of its new series “Shut Eye” (watch above). Bohem is the creator and executive producer of the popular streaming drama that stars Jeffrey DonovanKaDee Strickland and Isabella Rossellini. All episodes are now available to watch on Hulu.

According to Donovan’s character Charlie Haverford, a shut eye is a “magician that starts believing his own tricks.” As Donovan explains in the featurette, “Charlie begins the series living a life that he’s not crazy about. Just reading after reading, just barely getting by. This kick to the head starts raising questions of whether he now has a psychic ability.”

“It’s unusual to have a woman to be the head, the matriarch, the one that controls the clan,” Rossellini says about her breakout character Rita, before adding, “I hope that we would scare [the audience] a little bit.” And Strickland, who plays Linda, chimes in, “You think you know what this [show] is, but you have no idea as an audience.”

“Shut Eye” is receiving praises from critics, with Alex McCown (The A.V. Club) writing, “Its commitment to fleet storytelling and a game cast take it far.” Alan Sepinwall (UPROXX) notes, ” There are a lot of moving parts, some of which work quite well.” And Ken Tucker (Yahoo TV) says, “When ‘Shut Eye’ focuses on the often separate-but-equal storylines of Linda and Charlie, it’s intriguing.”
