“America was blindsided with that one, I think,” jokes the latest “Survivor: Kaoh Rong” castoff Neal Gottlieb to Gold Derby about his shocking medical evacuation due to an infected knee. “I’m great! I mean, the crazy thing about this is that it never really hurt. It got worse and worse, deeper and deeper, but it never hurt.”
Listen to our full exit interview above and then make your “Survivor” predictions for a chance to top our famous leaderboards. It’s fun and easy, so start now by scrolling down to predict who will be voted out next.
“They yanked me from the game, drove cross-country, and I ended up staring at the ceiling of a hospital as a doctor dug into it,” Neal continues. “I was there for two days. But the next day, they brought me to a nice hotel and the next morning I ran four miles on the treadmill. And the morning after that I ran five miles. I’ll always wonder, would I have been fine? And I’ll never know.”
According to exclusive Gold Derby odds that are derived from the predictions made by contest entrants like you, Neal’s ouster was a shocker as he only had 100/1 odds (<1% chance) of being sent packing. That put him in eighth place on our elimination chart for this week’s episode, titled “It’s Merge Time.”
One thing Neal does regret before leaving the game is not handing over his immunity idol to Aubry Bracco. “Thinking about how my death gave her life in the game, I felt like I didn’t owe her anything. And this one trinket — this last physical thing that I could grasp onto — it felt like I was keeping part of the game alive by holding onto it. [But] going out on the boat, I just immediately regretted it. Why do I care about this freaking thing? And so I’ve had a lot of time to think about that as well.”
Also in our chat, Neal reveals who he wants to win the $1 million, whether he thinks he could have won the game, and who the merged tribe likely would have voted out if he hadn’t been evacuated. Click the video above to listen to our Q&A podcast.

Which castaway will be eliminated?
Who will win the Reward challenge?
Who will win the Immunity challenge?
Will a hidden Immunity idol be played?
Will anybody quit or be medically evacuated?
At the end of each week, the eligible user with the highest prediction accuracy and most points will be the leaderboard champ for the week, so it’s beneficial to keep coming back often and making/updating your predictions.
Remember that coming out on top doesn’t just mean answering that week’s questions correctly. You also have to use your three big bets (500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points.
