“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” opens on June 3. Its a sequel to 2014’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” which rebooted the popular franchise about the sewer-dwelling popular title characters. While that one was a box office hit, raking in nearly half a billion dollars worldwide, it was a critical flop and earned five Razzie nominations including Worst Picture. It won Worst Supporting Actress for Megan Fox as reporter April O’Neil. Will “Out of the Shadows” also win Razzies? Vote in our poll below.
The 2014 “TMNT” lost Worst Picture to the Kirk Cameron comedy “Saving Christmas,” and its helmer Jonathan Liebesman lost Worst Director to Michael Bay (“Transformers: Age of Extinction”). That was somewhat fitting since Bay produced “TMNT” in addition to directing “Transformers.”
Bay is back as the producer of “Out of the Shadows,” and Fox also returns as April O’Neil, but this installment is directed by Dave Green, whose only previous feature film credit was the 2014 sci-fi adventure film “Earth to Echo.” Also joining the lineup for the new film is Stephen Amell, who plays vigilante Casey Jones, a role played in the 1990s films by Elias Koteas. Amell is currently best known for the CW drama “Arrow.”
What do you think? Will the new “TMNT” win Razzies? Or will it improve on its predcessor? Vote below.
