Last year FX’s critically acclaimed drama “The Americans” won the Emmy Award for Best Drama Guest Actress (Margo Martindale) and earned a bid for Best Drama Writing (Joshua Brand). With the just-completed Season 4 being its best yet — earning a series-high 95 score on Metacritic — we chatted with cast members Holly Taylor and Alison Wright about the shocking twists and the show’s awards success (see below).
In the hot race for Best Drama Series, a majority of Gold Derby’s Emmy experts drawn from major media outlets think that “The Americans” will finally earn nomination. As of this writing 10 of our 19 pundits predict a bid for Best Drama Series: Robert Bianco (USA Today), Lynn Elber (Associated Press), Don Kaplan (NY Daily News), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Lynette Rice (Ent. Weekly), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Ken Tucker (Yahoo), Adnan Virk (ESPN) and Jarett Wieselman (Buzzfeed).
The TCA Awards honored the show with three nominations: Program of the Year, Best Drama Series and Best Individual Achievement (Keri Russell). Will the Emmys follow suit? Remember, sometimes it takes a while for shows to emerge on the Emmy radar. Over on the comedy side, for example, “The Big Bang Theory,” “Scrubs” and How I Met Your Mother” didn’t get nominated for Best Series until their fourth seasons. As for dramas, it took “Friday Night Lights” five years to finally make the cut; hopefully “The Americans” won’t have to wait that long.
