[WATCH] ‘The Voice’ finale: We` McDonald completely owns ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ by Barbra Streisand

It takes a lot of guts to cover a Barbra Streisand song, but it’s “no guts no glory” time for We` McDonald if she wants to actually win “The Voice” championship. She belted out “Don’t Rain on My Parade” (watch above) for Monday’s live performance finale. For Tuesday’s results show crowning a Season 11 champion, she currently has second place 3/1 odds in our Gold Derby predictions center, trailing Billy Gilman (2/3), but ahead of Sundance Head (7/1) and Josh Gallagher (25/1). Her coach Alicia Keys would like to win for her rookie season against Adam LevineBlake Shelton, and Miley Cyrus.

Regarding Monday’s performance, our writer John Benutty says: “I screamed when they announced that We` was taking on this iconic Barbra performance. What made this perfect is that her voice lends itself to the theatricality that she was able to put on display with this. Her voice was full and smooth and she completely owned it. We` belongs on Broadway.”

According to her official NBC bio, “The name We` is Kenyan for “diligence,” which is something that she has had her entire life. Her father helped her get into vocal lessons at the Harlem School of the Arts, which she still attends after school and on weekends. Wé has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and, most recently, at the Apollo Theater. Although she has always found her place with music, she struggled to fit in at school. Kids teased her for her high-pitched voice and thick glasses, but she stuck it out and slowly things got better.”

Prior to this week’s live show, performances for the year by the New York native have been “Feeling Good” (blind audition song) by Anthony Newley, “Maybe” (battle song) by The Chantels, “No More Drama” (knockout song) by Mary J. Blige, “Home” (top 20) from “The Wiz,” “Take Me to Church” (top 12) by Hozier, “Love on the Brain” (top 11) by Rihanna, “God Bless the Child” (top 10) by Billie Holiday, and “Scars to Your Beautiful” (top 8) by Alessia Cara.
