Coach Adam Levine has one of the hottest contenders for Season 11 of “The Voice” in former child star Billy Gilman. His astonishing performances continued on Monday evening for the Top 11 episode when he had the tough challenge of singing “All I Ask” by Adele (watch above). If Levine has the winning artist again this time around, it will mark the fourth time in the history of the NBC reality show. He is up against long-time rival Blake Shelton plus rookie coaches Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys this season.
Regarding Monday’s performance, our writer Denton Davidson says: “Taking on an Adele song is never an easy task, but Gilman is usually up for the challenge when it comes to difficult songs to sing. The advantage he has over other contestants in the competition to this point is not only his solid range as a vocalist, but more importantly smart song choices that connect to the audience and inspire people to vote. This wasn’t a perfect performance nor was it Gilman’s best vocal, but it was good enough to get the job done.”
According to his official NBC bio, “At the age of 12, Billy released his first country album, One Voice, with Sony Records. The title track earned Billy a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance and was on the Billboard Country Top 40 for seven weeks. Billy became the youngest artist to ever have a Top 40 hit and a 2x platinum album.”
Prior to this week’s live show, performances for the year by the Rhode Island native have been “When We Were Young” (blind audition song) by Adele, “Man in the Mirror” (battle song) by Michael Jackson, “Fight Song” (knockout song) by Rachel Platten, “Crying” (top 20) by Roy Orbison, and “The Show Must Go On” (top 12) by Queen.
