“We’re just getting started,” states the ominous new poster for Season 7 of AMC’s apocalypse drama “The Walking Dead.” (See full, uncropped image below.) New baddie Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) gives a devilish grin in the poster art as he brandishes his trusty barbed-wire bat, Lucille. At the end of last season Negan killed one of our favorite characters off-camera and our readers have been feverishly voting on who they think was sacrificed by the TV gods. Does the poster suggest that there’s more death to follow?
Here is AMC’s plot description for the first half of the new season, which does include spoilers: “Season 7 sees the group fractured, broken, bereaved, and picking up the pieces while living under the thumb of oppression. Negan will have successfully brought the survivors under his will, brutally convincing them to live under his rules with a deadly and horrific example of what happens if they don’t.”
This year’s executive producers are Scott M. Gimple (showrunner), Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse. Per AMC, as in previous seasons, this year’s 16 episodes will air in two parts, with the first eight episodes kicking off October 23 and the final eight returning sometime in February 2017.
